You probably know that emergencies can be extremely stressful and that emergencies can be much worse if you aren’t prepared in advance. However, if you know what to do during an emergency, the unpleasant experience may be much easier to deal with.

For instance, if one of your teeth falls out and is in one piece, please contact us as soon as you possibly can. If you’re able to visit our dental team within an hour of the emergency, we may be able to restore your pearly whites. We also recommend putting your broken tooth in a glass of salt water or milk so the roots don’t die. If your tooth breaks or chips, please gather as many pieces as you can find and bring them to our office in a glass of milk or saltwater. If your tooth falls out or breaks, please avoid touching the tooth.

If one of your fillings falls out, or if you lose a dental crown, please call us as soon as possible. Furthermore, if you have a sore, or worry that you have an infection or an abscess, please contact us. It’s also important that you visit our team if a tooth or your jaw has experienced trauma.

Finally, please know that a toothache could also be a dental emergency—especially if your tooth is very painful. Furthermore, if your painful toothache lasts for more than 24 hours, we recommend scheduling a checkup with us. However, in the meantime, you could try rinsing out your mouth with salt water or try painkillers.
